Avery's First Trip to the Beach

Last weekend we went to Destin, Florida for our last little weekend trip as a family of three. Destin is only a four hour drive away, and the proximity to such a beautiful beach is a huge bonus of living in New Orleans! Our hotel was fantastic, and it was right on the beach. Our room had a set of bunk beds in it, so Avery slept in a big girl bed for the first time. Of course, I laid down with her to get her to bed, so she thinks her momma slept with her.

The temperature was only in the low 70's on the afternoon we arrived, so we decided to stick to the pool. Avery was hesitant at first, and the water was a bit chilly, so she didn't last too long (despite all of the pool toys that I packed!).

Before we left for dinner that night, we took Avery down to the beach to play in the sand for the first time. She wasn't too sure what to think of it, but she soon figured out that it was fun to hide her piggies (toes for you adults) in the sand.

Then next morning, we were on the beach bright and early. We reserved a beach setup with chairs and an unbrella, and it was so nice! Once again, Avery was a bit hesitant at first, but it didn't take long for her to start digging in the sand and playing with all of her beach toys. She loved to walk up and down the beach and let the waves get her feet wet. Of course, she also liked to stop and chat with most people she passed along the way!

Avery and Roger took a nice long nap after lunch, which allowed me to leave and go do some shopping. That worked out well for everyone! After nap time Avery was back on the beach, and she was a bit more adventurous this time.

We had to pack up and leave on Monday, but Avery was able to play one last time in the sand. I tried real hard, but it was IMPOSSIBLE to get a picture of her smiling at the camera. Despite that, I love seeing her little shadow in the pictures!

We had such a great time, and since it is such a reasonable drive, we definitely plan to head back late this summer. Besides, who could resist this view?
